Commonplace — Privacy Policy

The short version
Commonplace collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The developer runs no servers and receives no information about you or your use of the app.
What stays on your device
Your settings (themes, enabled museums, era, soundtrack choice, weather city) and the works you save to Favorites are stored locally on your Apple TV using the system's standard storage. They never leave the device and are not sent anywhere.
Network requests the app makes
To display art, Commonplace requests public-domain images and their descriptions from three museum open-access APIs: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Cleveland Museum of Art. If you turn on weather-reactive art, the city name you type is sent to the Open-Meteo weather service to fetch a forecast — the app never accesses your device location. If you turn on the soundtrack, music playback is handled by Apple Music through Apple's MusicKit framework. Each request exists only to provide that feature; none carries a personal identifier, and none of this information is collected by the developer.
Apple Music
The optional soundtrack uses Apple Music via MusicKit and requires your own Apple Music subscription. Your interaction with Apple Music is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not this one. The soundtrack is entirely optional; the app works normally without it.
Children
Commonplace is a passive art display. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page.
